Replace or Repair Lighting System?
New clients often ask us if we can we repair their old system or if it would be better to put in a new one. When we come out to give customers a consultation, we do our best to be up front and honest about the state of their lighting system. Sometimes a system is in serious need of an overhaul, but often times a system just needs a tune up. Every system will require a certain level of maintenance to ensure it is kept in working order. If you’re system has been well maintained, it increases the likelihood that a simple repair could be all you need to get your lighting system back in tip top shape.
Repair
Sometimes a system just needs a few simple repairs. Performing a tune up can do a lot for an older system that has been well maintained. This is especially true when the system was built with quality components and quality installation.
If you have had work done on or around your property recently, it is possible that your lighting system could have been disrupted. If a zone or section of lights stopped working, it can be any number of things causing the seemingly inexplicable failure of your system. It will require troubleshooting to get to the root of the problem.
Replace
How do we determine when it’s time for a system to be replaced? It’s best to have a professional evaluate the current state of the system. We’ve seen lots of lighting systems in poor working order.
The biggest thing to look for is broken fixtures. If fixtures are broken or corroded it’s a good sign that a system replacement may be needed. If we also see exposed or frayed wires, bad or ruined wire connections, or a completely rusted transformer, we know we are looking at a need to replace the lighting system. There comes a point where even if we can repair it, it will be better for you in the long run to replace the system.
