LED Light Bulbs – Dispelling the Myths

Incandescent bulbs will no longer be available to purchase after March 1st, 2023!

LED lamps will be the primary lamp purchase in the future.

Landscape Lighting Guru has been installing LED lamps as our primary type of lamp since the very beginning.  These light bulbs are very efficient and can be applied to many different aspects of lighting and the lamps usually don’t have to be replaced for about 10-20 years!  With the world transitioning to LEDs lamps indoors and out, it is time to dispel some of the common LED myths!

Myth #1:  LED light bulbs are only in a cool “blue light” tone.

Not True!  LED are available in many different colors from warm to cool with everything in between.  The color is measured in Kelvins and all LED lamps will be labeled with that information.

Color temperature is measured on a scale from warm to cool.  The lower it is on the scale the warmer, more relaxing and comforting the light is.  The higher up the scale the more cooler and stimulating the light becomes.  Lamps will labeled with their Kelvin temperature and while the name of the “color” may change between brands, the number is what is important.

Kelvin to Color Chart

2700K or less – warm white

3000K – natural white

3500K – neutral white

4000K – cool white

5000K + – day light

If you are not replacing all of your lamps in the same area at once, you will want to be careful to compare what you currently have and what you switch to.  It is true that the best exterior lighting plans will use both, it is strategic in how it is designed.  You wouldn’t want a cool tone and a warm tone up light on the façade of your home!
