Frequently Asked Questions

Landscape Lighting Guru answers the most frequently asked questions when it comes to outdoor lighting design and installation.

frequently asked questionsDo you contract out your installers?

No – all of our installers work for Landscape Lighting Guru and are considered an important part of the LLG family.

We are building a new home – when should we consider landscape lighting into the project?

It is best to include a lighting designer once you have plans.  You can save time and money if outdoor lighting is considered before construction.  Wire runs can be easily run prior to driveways, stairs, walkways, etc. being installed.

How often should I have my landscape lighting serviced?

We recommend twice a year but at least once a year is a must.  Why?  Even the highest quality fixtures need a little TLC from time to time to keep them in tip-top condition.

Our goal in our 16 point service and inspection is to keep your lighting looking as good tomorrow as it was the day it was installed. During the service, we will inspect every fixture, transformer, wire and timer to make sure they are working properly.

Included in this service is a pest preventive application for all your fixtures and components which we highly recommend. Pests can infiltrate your lights and wreak havoc on your electrical system which can be costly to repair, and usually is not covered under manufacturer warranty.

Another important part of our service call is to check all tree-mounted hardware and fixtures and offset them to accommodate for the tree’s growth.  Even if the best techniques were used during installation, all of them will grow into the tree eventually if not serviced regularly.

I got a bid that is lower, why should I go with Landscape Lighting Guru?

There are several reasons why LLG maybe a little more than some of your other outdoor lighting bids.  The first thing to consider is if you are comparing the proposals apples to apples.  LLG only uses the highest quality of fixtures with long manufacturing warranties.

Another reason is that you are paying for the expertise in design and installation and all the knowledge that comes from over 25 years of experience.  We offer our clients long-term support with maintenance and stand behind our work.    We routinely get clients calling for us to fix the systems somebody else installed.  The Guru has seen one to many things done incorrectly and incorrect electrical is very dangerous.

Can I connect my outdoor lighting system to my smart home system?

Yes, as long as there is wifi at the location of the transformer.  If not, you would need to consider adding a wifi extender to your system so you can control the lighting remotely.  As more and more homeowners are using apps to control various things in the home, it is natural to want to add your outdoor lighting to that.

Will my lighting system be LED?

Yes, all of our new systems that are installed are composed of LED bulbs.  We also offer LED retrofits for existing systems.
