Facade lighting and Shed Roof
Landscape Lighting Guru has had the opportunity to work on several new builds of homes in the greater San Antonio/New Braunfels/Austin area. One of the architectural styles that are popular requires a well designed lighting plan to properly light the front facade of the homes.
So what is that style?
The farmhouse style for homes is one that has been around for hundreds of years and the modern take on it has no shortage of curb appeal. A few distinctions of the modern farm house style is a proper front porch, gabled roof lines and shed roofs. No, we don’t mean the roof the actual shed building in your backyard but rather the awning like structure that you find above windows in this architectural style.
Shed Roof Lighting
These small roofs or awnings are an architectural feature that you not only want to make sure you feature with lighting but you also need to account for the shadows that those small roofs cause to the up lighting placed below them. The roofs will actually cut off the lighting and can make the lighting of your home seem disjointed and flat when you don’t include the gabled rooflines that are often above these small shed roofs.
How to fix facade lighting ?
Landscape Lighting Guru has several different ways to accomplish lighting the full front façade of your home and highlighting these special architectural features of your home. This can be done with down lighting from the eaves above as well as the up lighting from the ground to create a full coverage of the facade of your home. It can also be accomplished with well placed small up lights mounted above the shed roof, which are often painted to blend right into where they are attached to your home. There isn’t just one answer for every home but rather a lighting plan is created for the unique architectural features of the facade of your home.
