Playing it safe with Driveway Lights
Driveway Lighting
Navigating a long, winding drive to reach your home can be treacherous on a dark, moonless night. Even a short driveway can be risky at night. And backing up in the dark is just hard regardless of the size of your driveway!
Your car lights only reach so far, and trees and other landscaping can also block your view or cast shadows across. And even if it is easy for you to navigate because you do it every day, the same cannot be said for your visitors and guests.
Another concern many face is the damage to the sprinkler system that can be caused by just one tire veering into the lawn or landscape. The sprinkler heads are often placed right at the edge and even if they are not popped up, they easily get damaged. Even worse, it can also create a leak in the actual irrigation piping system which can waste a lot of precious water costing you money to fix and for the wasted water.
So, what can you do about the problem? Add driveway lighting that outlines each side of the driveway. Not only does it help with driving, but it also really adds to the curb appeal of your home.
There are several ways to add driveway lighting to your property. We recommend these small lights that can be driven over and supply an amount of light that is perfect to mark the outline of your driveway. And these lights can barely be seen during the day – they tend to just blend into your landscape.
Another way we love to provide light to your driveway is with downlights from the trees. This can create a moonlight effect that provides just the right amount of light to help navigate cars to the front of your home.
You also see path lights used for this purpose, but these are prone to be knocked over or have overgrown plants blocking the light. We recommend the other two lighting options overusing a path light if possible.
Adding driveway lighting is not only practical but it enhances the look of your home significantly. Driveway lighting can be a small part of an extensive lighting plan for your home or property or it can be done as a stand-alone feature for safety.
