Google does NOT know everything!

While google maps usually do a great job of getting you where you want to go, it still can leave you guessing at exactly which home you are supposed to find.  How many times have you had to search to find the house number when looking for someone’s home?  While your address is one of the most important features of our homes, it is often overlooked when it comes to being placed in the right location and being properly lit so people can find you after dark.

Make it easy to find!

address

Not only is it important that your address is easy to find for your guests, but it is also extremely important for emergency services.  Emergency services personnel need to quickly locate, and easily read, your address to provide emergency and other services to you.  The most common places to find an address are on the mailbox or next to the front door.  This is usually the case in developed neighborhoods that are well lit usually making it easy to figure out the right house you are looking for.

However, many homes on the outskirts of San Antonio are on large lots in a more rural or ranch-type neighborhood. Landscape Lighting Guru has the opportunity to work on homes with sprawling driveways and you can’t always see the house from the road.  We often work on beautiful ranch properties that do not have neighborhood lighting to help you find the way.

Either way, it is very helpful for your guests and visitors if you provide an address marker at the end of your driveway near the street.  This can be a feature in your landscape with adding a plaque or sign onto a boulder.

Make it Shine!

So maybe you have a properly placed address marker that you think is easy to find for your guests and visitor but what about when it is dark out?  You often see an under-lit porch sconce over the address which somehow makes it even harder to read the numbers!  It is so important to make sure your address marker is properly lit so your home is easy to find during the day and during the night.

The Guru often finds homes that have attempted to up light their address marker themselves with solar light from a home center, but these just do not provide enough light to help.  When visiting a potential client, Landscape Lighting Guru makes a point of recommending adding an up light onto your address marker.

There are many important factors to consider when choosing the right light fixture for your address marker.  As we discussed, you can easily put too little light onto it but you can also but too much – you need to pick the right size fixture with the right lamp wattage.  The location of the fixture can be tricky as well so that you are not blocking the address but that it isn’t too far away to cast shadows.  For address markers at the end of the driveway, another consideration is safely getting low voltage wiring to the location to power the light fixture.

If you are looking to improve your curb appeal and making it easier for your visitors to find you, consider adding an address marker to your property.  If you need help with lighting it, please give us a call at 210-710-7737.
